Your Responsibilities

  • Contribution to the research project ‘(Re-)Shaping Empires in the Hasmonean Era. The Impact of Hasmonean Ideology on the Biblical Representations of the Babylonian and Persian Empires’ (workplace in Graz)
  • Independent research into the project topic of representations of the Babylonian Empire in the Old Testament (particularly Daniel and Judith) and the surrounding context
  • Close collaboration with project partners at the University of Göttingen
  • Contribution to project-related publishing activities
  • Support for the project leader
  • Own research and publishing activities
  • Contribution to the preparation and organisation of project workshops, international project conferences, etc.

Your Profile

  • Completed doctoral or PhD degree in Theology or a subject area closely related to the project
  • Specialisation in the Old Testament (relevant knowledge of the history of Israel during the Second Temple period is required)
  • Excellent knowledge of the relevant ancient languages (particularly Greek, Hebrew and/or Aramaic)
  • Good knowledge of project-specific methods (particularly historical-critical method, social memory and/or gender-sensitive exegesis)
  • Publications (with international visibility) in one’s own field; preferably on topics relevant to the project (particularly the Books of Daniel and Judith)
  • Experience in the application for and implementation of externally funded research projects is desirable
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Good command of German is desirable
  • Enthusiasm for close collaboration within an interdisciplinary and international team
  • High level of commitment and motivation to undertake independent academic work
  • Ability to work independently and take the initiative
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility, reliability, ability to work well in a team and organise effectively

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 70.200,20 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.
