The Signal Processing and Communications (SigCom) research group of SnT, headed by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas, focuses on wireless/satellite communications and networking. The research areas focus on the formulation, modeling, design, and analysis of future 6G communication networks that are capable of supporting new services for digital ecosystems. Use cases of interest include Security and Efficient Wireless Communication Solutions, IoT verticals, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Integrated Satellite-Space-Terrestrial Networks, Quantum Communications and Quantum Information Networks, Spectrum Management and Coexistence, Tactile Internet, Earth Observation, and Autonomous Transportation. As far as technical enablers are concerned, we leverage expertise in advanced technologies including semantic/task-oriented data processing, signal processing, and network resource management to improve the performance of future wireless communication systems. Finally, due to the large-scale nature, complexity, and heterogeneity of 6G networks, we use tools such as artificial intelligence/machine learning, quantum computing, graph theory, graph-signal processing, and convex/non-convex optimization. Furthermore, our activities are experimentally driven and supported by the COMMLab, the 6GSPACE Lab, the HybridNetLab, the QCILab, our SW Simulators, and our facilities. Your role

The successful candidate is expected to assume a role in the design and development of software for quantum networking, in accordance with ongoing European initiatives and projects.

The candidate will play a central role in the engineering of software components for QKD networks, including key management, network control and orchestration, and the integration of quantum and classical security mechanisms. Responsibilities encompass the full software lifecycle, from requirements analysis, architecture and design through implementation, testing and deployment, following sound software engineering practices in a collaborative development environment. The candidate is also expected to support PhD candidates and researchers in their development and prototyping activities.

English is the working language of this international laboratory, which is engaged in several European and international projects and conducts cutting-edge research in close collaboration with academic and industry partners.

Your profile

The candidate is expected to hold, or be close to completing, a master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Telecommunications, Quantum Technologies, or a related discipline, with a focus on software development and a solid grounding in networking and applied cryptography. Candidates without a PhD are eligible for this Research and Development position.

Required qualifications:

  • Strong software development skills in two or more of Python, Rust, C and C++
  • Proficiency with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development workflows
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices: modular design, automated testing, continuous integration, code review, and documentation
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, sockets, secure communication protocols
  • Notions of cryptography and a keen interest in quantum and post-quantum security: QKD, key management, PQC, are highly needed
  • Notions of software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV) paradigms

Language Requirements: Excellent command of English (C1) is required
