Job Description

We are seeking researchers for several research projects in the field of human-technology interaction.

The exact roles, tasks, and project assignments will be defined based on the selected researchers’ backgrounds, skills, and interests. The selected researchers will likely contribute across multiple tasks and may be involved in more than one project simultaneously, depending on their profile and the needs of the research group.

Possible tasks may be related to, e.g.:

  • software development in a broad sense, encompassing various programming languages, platforms, and technologies,
  • artificial intelligence (AI) and data-driven methods,
  • Virtual, Augmented, and eXtended Reality (VR/AR/XR),
  • planning, conducting, and analyzing user evaluations / experimental research (with a variety of objective and subjective data collection methods), and
  • digital accessibility and inclusive design.

Potential projects focus on topics such as:

  • human-centered simulation and training in networked defense environments
  • human–AI collaboration in industrial fieldwork
  • human-centered AI for meaningful and productive work
  • conversational and accessible interaction with industrial digital twins
  • novel interactive applications for accessible work-life
  • human augmentation solutions for industrial and defense use cases

The goal is that some of the candidates will pursue a doctoral degree related to the field of the position. In such a case, the title can be changed to Doctoral Researcher once the candidate has an official study right and other qualification requirements are met.

Requirements

Applicants for the Project Researcher positions are expected to hold an applicable Master’s degree and demonstrate the ability and motivation to conduct research as part of collaborative research projects.

Candidates are expected to have knowledge of human-technology interaction, along with a suitable combination of relevant technical and methodological skills related to the tasks described in the Job Description.

As the working language of the research group (and most of our projects) is English, a good command of spoken and written English is required. Proficiency in Finnish is considered an advantage.

Experience or knowledge related to digital accessibility is also considered an asset.

Please note that, due to the nature of some of our projects, legal restrictions arising from international sanctions and export control regulations may affect eligibility for certain positions (more information provided by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland).

Tampere University is a unique, multidisciplinary, forward-thinking and evolving community. Our values are openness, critical thinking, diversity, learner-centredness, courage, erudition and responsibility. We hope you can embrace these values and promote them in your role.

We offer

Positions will be filled for a fixed-term period of 1–3 years (depending on qualifications, experience, and project requirements), starting preferably in September 2026; however, the starting date is negotiable and can be agreed upon with the selected candidate. Positions will be full-time (100%) or as agreed, and a trial period of four to six (4-6) months is applied.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a Project Researcher is placed on level 2-4 of the job requirements scale: The salary for a Project Researcher starts at around 2,500 EUR per month.
