We are looking for a Doctoral Researcher in the field of soft robotics. The position is full-time and will be filled for a fixed-term period of 3 years. The workplace is located at Hervanta Campus, Tampere University.
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET) is dedicated to pursuing world-class research ranging from clinical medicine and translational medicine, through molecular biology, biotechnology and cell biology, to biomedical engineering, biomicrosystems, biomaterials, and biorobotics. We conduct internationally acclaimed basic and applied research.
We are seeking a talented and motivated researcher to join Bioinspired Materials and Robotics group, a highly interdisciplinary group working at the forefront of soft robotics, microfluidics, and intelligent microsystems. Our team develops next-generation multimaterial and multifunctional microdevices, combining microfabrication, rapid prototyping, mechatronics, and advanced computational methods. You will contribute to pioneering work in soft robotic systems with embedded sensing. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on impactful technologies at the intersection of engineering, biology, and robotics in a collaborative and innovation-driven environment.
Job description
We are looking for a motivated Doctoral Researcher to join an upcoming Horizon Europe project focused on developing microfluidic sensor technologies for soft robotics. In this role, you will design and model microfluidic channel networks, create computer-aided design tools for these systems, and take part in building and testing the devices. This is a hands-on position combining design, simulation, fabrication, and experimental work in an international research project.
The selected candidate will be able to focus on their doctoral research full-time, get supervision, and implement new ideas as a part of a research team in the positive and multidisciplinary environment of the MET faculty.
In addition to the doctoral dissertation, the duties of a doctoral researcher may include participation in faculty tasks that support your doctoral studies.
Requirements:
You need to have completed a relevant Master’s degree before the starting date of employment.

The planned starting date is in September 1, 2026, or as mutually agreed by both parties, but no later than November 1, 2026. The position is full-time, and it will be filled for a fixed-term period of 3 years from the starting date of the employment. A trial period of 6 months applies to all our new employees.
The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a Doctoral Researcher is placed on level 2-4 of the job requirements scale. A typical starting salary for a Doctoral Researcher is approximately 2750-2900 EUR per month. The salary increases based on experience and the progress of doctoral studies.
