Full Time and Open Ended, with Hybrid working 

This role is being recruited to either a Lecturer (grade 7 from £47,389 to £56,535 per annum) or Senior Lecturer (grade 8 from £59,966 - £67,468 per annum) in Criminology - IN THEIR SUPPORTING STATEMENT, APPLICANTS ARE ASKED TO MAKE IT CLEAR WHETHER THEY ARE APPLYING FOR LECTURER OR SENIOR LECTURER.

Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for: 

We are seeking to recruit a high calibre individual to join the growing Department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy as either a Lecturer in Criminology OR a Senior Lecturer in Criminology.  

The post will be based on the Loughborough campus in the East Midlands.

The department is particularly interested in hearing from candidates with specialisms including, but not limited to, criminal justice responses to violence and violent crime, youth justice, youth offending and adverse childhood experiences, substance use and misuse, harms and injustices experienced by marginalised groups.

We also welcome applications from people with a range of methodological expertise.

The Department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy (CSSP) sits within the School of Social Sciences and Humanities. CSSP is a vibrant, research‑intensive community supported by internationally recognised academic staff and a dynamic cohort of research fellows and students who contribute to a collaborative and outward‑looking culture. This atmosphere—marked by strong collegiality, methodological breadth, and an ethos of tackling real‑world social challenges—provides a supportive yet ambitious context in which staff and students have the time to thrive.

The School of Social Sciences and Humanities is a diverse and inclusive School delivering excellence in learning and teaching, research, and enterprise across the Social Sciences and Humanities. Inter-disciplinarity and international encounters are fostered across six departments: Communication and Media; Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy; English; Geography and Environment; International Relations, Politics and History and Law.

About You 

  • You should have a focused research agenda in Criminology and/or criminal justice, a growing portfolio of peer-reviewed publications and evidence of a commitment to engaging in knowledge exchange and impact.
  • You should have a student-centered approach to student education demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the student experience
  • You should incorporate the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in your teaching and academic citizenship
