The National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (NASP) conducts suicide research at a high international level from biological, psychological, social, and public health perspectives, and collaborates with leading international and national groups in suicide research. NASP is a collaborative centre organised under two principal organisations: the Stockholm County Healthcare Area (SLSO) at Region Stockholm, and Karolinska Institutet, the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME).
The employment at LIME will be combined with employment as a specialist-qualified psychiatrist within the Stockholm County Healthcare Area (SLSO), distributed as 30 percent at SLSO and 70 percent at Karolinska Institutet (KI).
Description of the subject area
Psychiatry is the medical specialty and academic discipline that studies the origins, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illnesses. The subject integrates biological, psychological, and social perspectives to understand and treat mental illness. The advertised employment is focused on suicide prevention, an interdisciplinary field with a focus on reducing suicide and suicidal behavior through research, intervention, and policy. The field integrates perspectives from psychiatry, psychology and public health, to address suicide as a complex phenomenon requiring multilevel approaches—from individual clinical care to population-based interventions and policy initiatives. The announced position as Professor of Psychiatry is aimed at a psychiatrist with experience in the field of suicide prevention from the perspective of both, the public health and the clinical perspective.
The advertised employment is aimed at a psychiatrist with experience in suicide prevention from both a public health perspective and a clinical perspective. You will primarily work with research focused on understanding the suicidal process and its relation to mental disorders as well as other determinants and risk factors for suicidality, with the goal of developing new suicide preventive interventions. You are also expected to teach at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, including supervision of doctoral students and degree projects, as well as contribute to course responsibility and programme development within relevant educational programmes (with subject areas of suicide or psychiatry) at KI, such as the Medical Programme, or other relevant profession programmes and courses.
To be eligible for an employment as Professor with focus on research the applicant must have demonstrated excellent scientific skills and very good pedagogical skills.

Further eligibility requirements
It is a requirement that you have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education, as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.
The employment will be combined with an employment as a specialist physician, assistant chief physician or chief physician in Psychiatry at the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention at Stockholm Healthcare Services and therefore you must have a Swedish MD-license with specialist competence in Psychiatry as well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in Sweden.
The Professorship has a focus on research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific skills (3), pedagogical skills (2), leadership and collaboration skills (3), and clinical skills (1).
