Introduction

Are you passionate about sustainable energy materials and thin-film technologies for batteries? Are you interested in combining materials science, atomic layer deposition and electrochemistry, in cutting-edge lithium- and sodium-ion battery research? We are looking for 2 PhD candidates to design and engineer key interfaces in lithium- and sodium-ion battery technologies, while collaborating with other Dutch academic partners and companies.

Job Description

Within the Plasma & Materials Processing group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), you will contribute to advance our growing research efforts in Atomic Scale Processing for next-generation energy devices. The central challenge of the research team is to design and engineer interfaces at the atomic scale by means of atomic layer deposition, for green hydrogen production, highly efficient metal halide perovskite-based photovoltaics and, of course, high energy density and safer batteries for e-mobility .

You will work in a highly collaborative environment within the Plasma & Materials Processing group, embedded in TU/e’s strong Brainport ecosystem, as well as tightly connected to other academic partners and industry through national research consortia (https://www.batterynl.nl/ and https://nanexbat.nl/). You are expected to contribute to scientific output, supervise Bachelor and MSc students, and actively collaborate with academic and industrial partners.

  • Ability to conduct high quality academic research, reflected in demonstratable outputs.
  • Knowledge and expertise in thin film deposition (ALD, CVD, PVD) and material characterization
  • Background knowledge in energy materials and/or battery technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to perform high-quality, independent research
  • A team player who enjoys supervising Bachelor and MSc. students and working in a highly international, dynamic, and interdisciplinary team.
