We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoc to join our team at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Become part of our group and contribute to exciting research in the field of organic electronics within a collaborative and dynamic environment.

About us

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering offers an international environment, with scientific areas ranging from fundamental chemistry and materials science to chemical engineering.

The Müller Research Group focuses on the physical chemistry and materials science of organic semiconductors, polymer blends and composites, and develops new plastic materials for use in the fields of wearable electronics and energy technology. All research is conducted in co-operation with other universities/institutes and/or industry. Presently, our group consists of 1 Professor, 1 permanent researcher, 5 Postdocs and 9 PhD students.

About the research project

Your research will focus on the reproducible and benign synthesis of high-performance organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors (OMIECs) with optimal mechanical and electrical properties. In addition, you will contribute to the development of continuous flow chemistry processes. An example of our recent work can be found in a recent article in Science Advances. You will work closely with fellow PhD students and postdocs at Chalmers, and collaborate with partners across Sweden and internationally. This role also offers exciting opportunities to travel and engage with external collaborators.

Who we are looking for

The following requirements are mandatory:

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • A very good capability of communicating scientific results in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, the candidate is expected to have excellent collaboration skills.
  • A promising track record of early achievements such as scientific publications.
  • Experience with experimental techniques that are commonly used to characterize polymers, in particular NMR, chromatography and vibrational spectroscopy.
  • Significant experience with organic synthesis and the synthesis of conjugated polymers via coupling reactions.

The following experience will strengthen your application:

  • It is highly meritorious if the doctoral degree has been obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Experience with flow chemistry.

What you will do

The majority of your working time is devoted to your own research, in collaboration with other Postdocs and students in our group as well as collaborating groups. In addition, you are expected to support and mentor some of the Master and/or PhD students in our group that work on related topics. As a Postdoc you are expected to develop your own ideas and communicate scientific results orally as well as in writing. There is the possibility to teach on the undergraduate/master’s level.

The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector.

Contract terms

Full-time temporary employment for a maximum of two (2) years, with the possibility to extend by one (1) more year provided project funding is available and the project goes according to plan. The monthly salary of a Postdoc researcher at Chalmers is about 40'000 SEK before tax (€ 3'700).

The position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.
