We are looking for a Doctoral student to join the Division of Marine Technology at Chalmers, working within the Kongsberg University Technology Centre in Computational Hydrodynamics. Join us in helping the industry developing the next generations of sustainable ship propulsion systems.
At the Department of Mechanical Engineering, we unite the power of technology, people, and society to drive the transition toward a sustainable future. Through research, education, and collaboration, we create solutions that connect materials to mobility, ideas to impact – shaping a resilient and sustainable world. We make impact.
The Division of Marine Technology develops knowledge and solutions for the sustainable maritime systems of the future and a fossil-free society. Through interdisciplinary research, we contribute to energy-efficient and safe marine systems with reduced negative environmental impact – from ships and underwater vehicles to offshore structures and renewable ocean energy.
Ship design is going through an exciting development towards sustainable transportation, seeing innovations to meet the growing demands on reduced emissions to air and underwater noise. Within the Kongsberg UTC, you will work together with one of the world leading industries in developing computational tools for future marine propulsion systems.
The topic for this Doctoral student position is in methods to assess cavitation inception, vibrations, and underwater radiated noise during the design phase, a complex multiphysics problem involving good physical understanding, high fidelity CFD, and possibly machine learning.
*for students with an education earned outside of Sweden, a 4-year Bachelor’s degree is accepted.
