The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Language and Communication Studies is currently recruiting a University Teacher in English for a fix-termed position, between January 2nd and December 31st, 2025.
Tasks and qualifications
The position is allocated to the discipline of English in the Department of Language and Communication Studies. The department provides high quality, research-based academic education in language and communication studies. The University Teacher will be responsible for teaching basic and intermediate level courses, mainly academic writing and communication skills courses. Depending on the selected persons’ skills and expertise, they can also teach intermediate courses in the specialization areas of the three degree programs in languages, i.e. Language Teachers, Language Aware and Multilingual Language and Class teachers, and Multidisciplinary Language Experts. Demonstrated results and experience in conducting research and teaching are considered an asset.
University Teachers are required to have a relevant master’s degree. The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a University Teacher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. Excellent proficiency in English is required in this position.
In addition, the following skills and achievements are regarded as merits: (i) experience in teaching, (ii) pedagogical training, (iii) development of teaching materials, (iv) other merits in teaching, and (v) other skills and achievements relevant to the task of the University Teacher. The University Teacher’s salary is situated on the job demands level 5 according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. The salary is 3 400 – 4 100 € / month depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
A trial period of five months will be used at the beginning of the employment.
