Offer Description

We are recruiting two postdoctoral candidates to join the FaceCategorizationLab in Nancy (France) at CNRS and Université de Lorraine. Successful candidates will be supervised by Bruno Rossion, in collaboration with Jacques Jonas.

The selected postdoctoral candidates will focus on research on the neural mechanisms of human recognition of faces, as investigated with frequency-tagged electrophysiological activity (EEG, intracranial EEG, microelectrode recordings for single neuron activity). Neuropsychological and electrophysiological measurements during intracerebral electrical stimulation of the human ventral occipito-temporal cortex can also be part of the research (see examples of relevant publications below).

The postdoctoral researchers will become a full member of the Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience group of the CNRS laboratory IMoPA UMR7365, Université de Lorraine (Nancy, East of France). The research group is a small unit tightly linked to clinical research at the university hospital of Nancy (CHRU), including researchers in neuroscience, cognitive science, neuropsychologists and neurologists. They will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities at Université de Lorraine, CNRS and CHRU-Nancy.

The candidates should have a PhD in neuroscience, cognitive science, biology, engineering, psychology or equivalent. Ideally, he/she should also have a good level in French and a solid background in cognitive neuroscience. Knowledge of electrophysiology/neuropsychology, programming skills (e.g., R, Matlab, Python) and a good level of English are a plus. High motivation, curiosity, creativity, perseverance and the ability to work in a team are also key personal skills.

The positions will be fully funded by the CNRS (ERC Adg HUMANFACE) and will be for 24 months with standard French salaries. Applications should be sent as a single PDF to bruno.rossion@univ-lorraine, including a CV, a letter of motivation and 2 names of references. Deadline for application: June 1st 2024 (candidates may be selected and hired earlier, don’t wait to apply if you are interested).
