At the Institute of Telecommunications of TU Vienna, a career position (40 hours per week) in the research area Signal Processing is expected to start in October 2023. The position is initially limited to a period of six years. In the case of the conclusion of a qualification agreement and the achievement of the agreed goals, there is the possibility of a permanent employment contract as Associate Professor. The position includes research and teaching in the area of Signal and Data Processing in the cross-section of signal processing, data science, information theory, quantum information, coding and (machine) learning. Current research areas include: sparse signal and data models, signals on graphs, clustering, data representation, fusion, compression, and probabilistic methods for machine learning.

Aufgaben

Research:

  • Statistical, sparse, and graphical models for describing signals and data.
  • Preferably in the following areas: Methods for signal detection, classification, estimation and regression, tracking, source and channel coding, quantum information, machine learning including Big Data and data mining.
  • Implementation of practical algorithms
  • Applications e.g. in data transmission, Internet of Things, intelligent transportation systems, biomedical engineering, etc.

Teaching:

  • Compulsory and elective courses (lectures, tutorials, labs) in the area of Signal and Data Processing.
  • Co-supervision of student theses
  • Good knowledge of German and English language required

Administration:

  • Taking charge of general administrative tasks of the research unit
  • Participation in university committees
  • Launch and management of an independent research group
  • Acquisition of third-party funds via research projects

Your profile:

  • A domestic or equivalent foreign university degree with doctorate appropriate to the position as well as excellent German and English language skills
  • Junior scientist with a completed doctorate not older than 10 years
  • Proven expertise in the field of Signal and Data Processing
  • Outstanding scientific achievements evidenced by excellent publication record
  • Relevant experience in academic teaching
  • Familiarity with the design and implementation of research projects
  • International experience in the form of research stays is desirable
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Gender and diversity competence

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 4,351.90 gross (14 x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment continues as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 5,124.20 gross (14 x per year).
