The project focuses on single molecule motor protein studies with high-resolution optical-force-spectroscopy laser tweezers (in collaboration with FZ Jülich, GER). The molecular motor of interest is the ribosome. We follow synthesis by single ribosomes in real-time and are interested in its interaction with small molecules and protein folding at single molecule level. The candidate must have a PhD in Biology or Physics possibly with preference in Biophysics applications of single molecule techniques. He/she is expected to be highly motivated, focused - with attention to detail, independent, a ‘team player’ and have a strong background in interdisciplinary biophysical experimental techniques. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and carrying out the experiments and for analysing the data. It is expected that he/she will acquire an in-depth knowledge of the background literature, contribute to the interpretation of the biophysical experiments on the basis of detailed analysis, and integrate the results with those of ongoing molecular biology and biochemistry experiments in the field. Knowledge in molecular-biological preparation of molecules, surface functionalization techniques and optics of laser tweezers is advantageous. Excellent verbal, written (publication (-s) in the field of single molecule research is a big plus), and listening skills including demonstrated ability to work well with other people as part of a scientific collaboration and excellent organisational and administrative skills are required.
