Project

Considering the economic significance and the negative environmental impacts of the EU textile value chain, the proposed interdisciplinary research will focus on the transition towards a more sustainable and circular textile value chain in Belgium and abroad from a legal and economic perspective. For the economic part, the following research questions will be addressed:

(1) what is the current economic significance of the Belgian textile value chain, what is its material footprint and environmental impact?
(2) what is the estimated impact on economic activity, employment, prices and environmental outcomes of different regulatory and self-regulatory CE innovations at EU and Belgian level?
(3) what fine-tuning of these regulatory and self-regulatory CE innovations could improve their overall environmental effectiveness, economic welfare, legal certainty and coherence?
