The Graz University of Technology/Faculty of Civil Engineering Sciences seeks to appoint a full professor in the field of

Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resources Management and Hydraulics

at the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management with appointment effective as of first of October, 2024. The successful applicant will be appointed as professor on the basis of a permanent employment contract according to Section 98 of the Austrian Universities Act (§ 98 Universitätsgesetz (UG)).

We are seeking a candidate with an outstanding scientific track record who is able to develop a strong and visible research program in the field of Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resources Management and Hydraulics. Potential research fields are the adaptation and optimization of hydraulic infrastructure in the context of climate change and energy transition as well as sustainability and ecology. Other potential fields of research are the condition assessment of hydraulic structures and strategies for rehabilitation, flood risk reduction and the design of flood protection systems as well as the combined application of experimental and numerical methods.

Involvement in teaching at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels in the relevant courses at the faculty of civil engineering is mandatory. In-depth courses based on research and/or practice are desirable.

The position requires the willingness to engage actively in intensive interfaculty cooperation. At the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management, excellent experimental possibilities as well as comprehensive resources in numerical simulation are available in the laboratory. Active participation and further development of the hydraulic engineering laboratory and the numerical methods is expected.

Requirements for employment are:

  • A university education relevant subject, including a completed doctoral degree (PhD). Degrees must comply with Austrian accreditation standards.
  • An outstanding academic track record in research and teaching.
  • Teaching experience and excellent didactics skills, preferably documented by a Habilitation (venia docendi) or an comparable scientific qualification.
  • Proven leadership skills.

Excellent spoken and written competence in English is required, to ensure effective international representation of the field and to enable involvement in the English teaching of the master's degree program in Geotechnical and Hydraulic Engineering at Graz University of Technology. Fluency in German or the willingness to acquire it is also expected.

Relocation to live in the greater Graz area is required.
