The Biotechnology Department of Ghent University carries out research with both mammalian and plant cells. In this interdisciplinary research, advanced analytical techniques are applied including PCR, qPCR, atomic force microscopy (AFM), Raman and infrared spectroscopy (fluorescence microscopy and impedance spectroscopy), and epigenetic analyses. These methods will be applied to investigate cell biology related processes relevant for immunotherapy in humans, and the defense response of plants against pathogens, such as for example, regulated cell death i.e. apoptosis and ferroptosis, chimeric antigen receptor T-cells; cell uptake of nanoparticles; and control of uptake by cells.

Interdisciplinary research will be executed using both mammalian and plant cells. These cells will be used to apply cell biological, microscopical and epigenetic methods.
