Job description

Would you like to nurture, inspire, and educate the next generation of software engineers? Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is looking for a lecturer in the department of Mathematics and Computer Science focusing on one or more of the following software engineering education topics: programming, testing and software development methodologies.

Eindhoven University of Technology is one of the leading academic institutions in the Netherlands, and one of the four Dutch universities of technology. It is focused on training the next generation of engineers of various disciplines and totaling over 12.800 students with almost 30% of them coming from abroad. The faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science has the most enrolled students among the faculties, totaling 2544 in 2022/2023.  

The Software Engineering and Technology cluster of the department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers a broad spectrum of bachelor and master courses addressing various aspects of software engineering, ranging from basic programming to design of modern large scale software systems, and from human-computer interaction to establishing correctness of software. We play a crucial role in both bachelor and master programs on Computer Science and Engineering and support bachelor programs in Data Science, Mathematics and Physics.

We are looking for great candidates with passion for teaching the next generation of software engineers and sharing your passion for one or more of the following topics: programming; testing or software development methodologies; project management; SCRUM; collaborative tools; software supply chain. The candidate will be expected both to contribute to existing courses offered by the cluster, and to take responsibility for teaching and developing new courses. Furthermore, the candidate will be expected to supervise groups, and (co-)supervising final bachelor and master projects.

The candidate will be expected to acquire the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ).

Job requirements

  • PhD in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline(s). Candidates pursuing their PhD will be considered provided they can ensure the PhD is obtained during the appointment period.
  • Experience with teaching at the university level
  • Interest in software engineering education, and specifically education related to one of mor of the following software engeneering programming, software testing, software development methodologies, project management, SCRUM, collaborative tools, software supply chain.

Conditions of employment

We offer:

  • A position in an internationally renowned institution.
  • A full-time temporary contract for 3 years which upon satisfactory performance will be turned into a permanent contract.
  • Depending on experience and education, the salary for a fulltime contract ranges between € 3.226,- and € 5.929,- gross per month (salary scale 10 or 11 CAO Dutch Universities).
  • Support your professional and personal development. You will be enrolled into a program to acquire the University Teaching Qualification (BKO) within 3 years.
  • If relevant: to support you during your PhD and to prepare you for the rest of your career, you will have free access to a personal development program for PhD students (PROOF program).
  • A gross monthly salary and benefits following the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities with a yearly holiday allowance and a yearly end year allowance.

For many students and employees, the TU/e Campus is not only a place of study and work, but also a home. Since the opening of the Aurora and Luna apartment blocks, hundreds of students and staff of different nationalities are resident here, turning our green campus in the heart of Eindhoven into a lively place. A movie theater with a grand café/restaurant, a sports center and a supermarket all contribute to a pleasant place to live and stay. We also have child-care facilities on campus. Because even when you are far from home, we feel it is important for you to feel at home.
