The Department of Computing, Faculty of Technology at the University of Turku is looking for 1-2 (fixed term positions) postdoctoral researchers, doctoral researchers or project researchers in the field of health technology.   

The work is full-time, although part-time work is possible. The positions are fixed term starting on August 1, 2024 or according to mutual agreement, and ending on June 30, 2028.  

The positions are in the POC4TRIAGE project (Point-of-Care Devices for Urgent Care Triage), funded by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA). In the project, we develop, test, and clinically validate five compact cost- and energy-efficient POC devices for acute care (ambulance, emergency room, intensive care unit).  

The University of Turku leads the project and develops a new multimodal sensory path for acute monitoring of cardiorespiratory conditions and new high performance real-time AI methods for point-of-care. 

As a postdoctoral researcher, doctoral researcher or project researcher you will join the innovative Health technology research group at the University of Turku and work as part of the POC4TRIAGE research consortium of 19 leading research institutions, hospitals and companies from 11 countries.

Preferably, you have a technical background and skills in one or several items listed below and a genuine drive to develop solutions for better healthcare:   

  • AI on-device 
  • Instrumentation 
  • Python programming skills  
  • research experience

Qualification requirements

The qualification requirements of the positions are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure: https://www.utu.fi/en/university/organisation

A person selected for the post of Postdoctoral researcher is required to have a doctoral degree and the ability to conduct independent scientific work as well as having the necessary teaching skills.   

A person selected for the post of Project researcher is required to have a higher university degree. The degree must be completed by the end of the application period. When assessing the merits of the applicants, special emphasis will be placed on competence and practical expertise in the field in question. 

A person selected for the post of Doctoral researcher is required to have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Turku. In addition, when acquiring their degree or otherwise, they are required to have demonstrated the ability and motivation to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan.  

 

Salary & trial period

The salaries are determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For a Postdoctoral researcher the salary will be in the beginning of the employment around 3500-3700 euros/month, for a Doctoral researcher/Project researcher around 2400-2600 euros/month, depending on previous experience and skills. The amount of the salary is defined when the employment contract is prepared. 

A six (6) month trial period applies to the positions.
